Each type of cowhide has unique characteristics and textures due to the tanning process, and thus requires different maintenance and care methods. Knowing how to care for specific types of leather can help extend the life of leather products and preserve their beauty.

This time, ISOLÉ will introduce the maintenance for each of our bags.

♦Shrink Leather♦

Shrink leather undergoes a special process to create pronounced creases, known as "shibo." This results in a unique shrunken pattern and texture that is more distinct than natural grain, and also boasts durability and wrinkle resistance.

Shrink leather boasts excellent durability and a characteristic that makes scratches less noticeable. Therefore, frequent maintenance is not required, but simple care such as gently removing surface dirt with a soft brush or cloth is generally recommended.

Waxed leather has a natural sheen and offers a sophisticated look. Because its surface is coated with wax and oil, it can protect the leather from light rain and moisture.

Waxed leather has a coating of wax or oil on its surface, which clogs the fine pores and makes it less prone to dust. Therefore, for daily care, it is recommended to wipe it with a damp cloth or sponge. However, please be careful not to use oil-based cleaners on waxed leather, as this can create a film on the surface and affect its appearance.

Embossing adds a pattern to the surface of leather, allowing it to mimic the elegant appearance of expensive and rare animal hides like crocodile or ostrich, while also helping to conceal imperfections and small scratches.

Embossed leather has an uneven surface where dust can easily accumulate, so clean it regularly with a dry, soft cloth. If the unevenness is deep, it is also recommended to use a leather-friendly brush. When using a brush, apply it gently and lightly to avoid scratching the leather.

Because the leather surface is carefully buffed with a file, it has a delicate weave and fine, fluffy fibers, making it very soft to the touch and giving it an elegant and sophisticated feel.

When dry, use a soft-bristled brush to remove all dirt and dust. For stubborn stains that are difficult to remove, you may use a suede eraser or cleaner. Nubuck leather is vulnerable to water and prone to rain stains, so it is recommended to finish with a waterproofing spray.

As the name suggests, smooth leather has few irregularities and a smooth, uniform surface texture, giving it a luxurious and sophisticated impression. This is one of the reasons it is often used for business and formal occasions.

While its smooth and flat appearance is a beautiful feature, a disadvantage is that scratches and dents become noticeable once they occur. Therefore, in caring for smooth leather, it is essential to deal with dirt promptly. Gently wipe away light dirt and dust from the leather surface using a soft cloth or horsehair brush. If the dirt is stubborn, try using a leather-specific cleaner.

A special polyurethane or PVC (polyvinyl chloride) coating is applied to the surface of regular leather. Patent leather is highly glossy, with a shiny surface that is harder and smoother than regular leather.

Enamel leather is more water-resistant and has improved waterproofing, so if it gets dirty or wet in the rain, simply wipe it gently with a soft cloth immediately. However, because the material's surface is non-absorbent, there is a risk of color or patterns from printed materials transferring to the enamel leather. Also, the surface is easily scratched, so using a hard brush or scrubbing too much can cause scratches. Therefore, please use a soft cloth for maintenance.
